The Tallinn City Archives’ beautiful Christmas card was inspired by our virtual exhibition Birds in the archives and the museum. The girl depicted is the work of Paul Wiltmann, an apprentice to painter Weiss, from 1883. It is one of the many fascinating finds in the collections of the City Archives. The author of the Christmas card is Kadri Paloveer.

Other works with bird motifs from 19th century Tallinn painters’ apprentices can be seen HERE and the entire exhibition can be seen HERE.

We are very grateful to the City Archives and other archiving institutions who have already lent birds for the exhibition from their collections or are still searching for additions. As it says on the Christmas card – it is the year of the bird!
