ETIS

Mirjam Hinrikus’ research interests cut across naturalism, decadence (including Nietzschean decadence) and modernism studies in Estonia, Nordic countries, and larger Europe during fin de siècle and the first half of 20th century. She is also interested in feminist and gender studies, cultural studies, transnational theory, discourse analysis and cultural transfer (especially between Estonian and Finnish culture during the mentioned period). She leads the project Emergence of a Civilised Nation: Decadence and Transitionality in 1905‒1940 and her focus is on one of the most canonized Estonian writer’s, A. H. Tammsaare’s (1878–1940) oeuvre in comparative context and in relation to different definitions of decadence.
