Literature Centre at the Literary Street Festival in Kadriorg
We'll talk about the cuckoo and literature; plus worthy books and literary T-shirts for sale
Already taking place for the eighth time, the Literary Street Festival on Koidula street in Kadriorg aims to draw attention to Estonian literature and cultural heritage. The Under and Tuglas Literature Centre will also be present in the festival atmosphere with valuable books and museum souvenirs.
- At 13.00 a discussion will take place about J. Randvere’s alias Johannes Aavik’s notorious essay-short story Ruth (1909) which was initially published in the third album of Young Estonia. The discussion will be moderated by the Literary Scholar Johanna Ross. Different facets of Ruth will be interpreted by the Literature Centre’s Research Professor Mirjam Hinrikus, the Musicologist Kerri Kotta and the Art Scholar Lola Annabel Kass.
- At 14.00 Juhan Liiv’s collection of journalistic writing and criticism Vulise ojakene rohkem (Flow more little creek) will be launched. The book is introduced by the Editor Tanar Kirs, the Director of the Juhan Liiv Museum Mari Niitra and Elle-Mari Talivee, the Senior Researcher at the Literature Centre.
- At 16.00 the Senior Researcher at the Literature Centre Elle-Mari Talivee and the Event Coordinator at the Museum and Poet Veronika Kivisilla will take the stage. Their conversation is titled “The cuckoo does not have paws”. As the Estonian Ornithological Society named 2024 the year of the cuckoo, the talk focuses on this extraordinary and mysterious bird in the context of nature, folklore and literature.
